Recently, an open Network, comprising of the major university laboratories
playing a key role in aeronautics research in Greece has been established, so
as to offer a focal point for aeronautics research in Greece. The laboratories
participating in the Network are:
The Network includes the most successful University Laboratory in terms of funded aeronautics projects
in FP6 Europe-wide, as well as the coordinator of the Association of the European universities that are
active in aeronautical research (EASN).
The Network, which will be managed and coordinated by ISTRAM, operates as a Virtual Research
Establishment covering a wide area of aeronautical sectors and aiming, in medium term, to cover
the entire area of Aeronautics. The areas of research currently covered by the Network are:
- Aeronautical materials and structures, metallic or composite, differential or integral.
- Innovative Manufacturing Processes, Advanced Human-Centred Design Techniques, including
Virtual Reality, and Production Systems Planning, Control and Networking.
- Analog and Integrated Circuits design, Embedded DSP Systems, Computer Vision,
Signal Detection and Information Fusion.
- Physical Metallurgy, materials characterization, structure-property relations,
alloy design, microstructure and process simulations
